So you may be wondering, "what is all of this". Simply put, all of this is my contribution towards functionalism. Functionalism is, at it's roots, the elimination of all things unnecessary. Environmentally speaking, the world is in this state of disarray due to our over consumption and taking more than our fair share from it. Socially, the companies feeding our over consumption are buying their way into our government. So, on a global scale, functionalism is a social movement.
I took it upon myself to bring this into the design community. The first part of this project was to create a functional font (Muneris). Muneris is a thin, condensed font that only comes in uppercase. The reason for this is that uppercase letters do not contain descenders, thus it is possible to fit more characters in less vertical space. The reason for it being thin and condensed is to save on ink. Also, I used very tight curves to save on ink as well.
The second part of this project was the minimal/functional Wordpress theme. I removed all elements from the theme except the essentials.
Lastly, I built a very simple personal homepage system. I'm sure something like this already exists, but I haven't come across anything like it to this point. Basically, it takes the essentials (your local weather, any feeds you want, your favorite websites, and a to-do list) and puts them in one, uncluttered space. I may continue to develop this, but I'm distributing it as is.
