A story about a birth of new language.
One day I came across a book in Japanese solidified by synthetic glue.
Its pages were impossible to separate. Due to some weird process it had
become transparent and I could see through a beautiful matrix of the
texts inside.Having immersed myself in their unique texture, I
discovered fascinating shapes conceived within the letter mess. It was
a starting point of my journey. Enchanted by a new reality that was
staring me in the face, I singled out the shapes that were to become 15
new letters carrying this Japanese script genes.
The script I have created became the heart of my journey. On that
journey I have been researching different aspects of the letter, its
behavior as a shape, character, spot. I tried to feel it through matter
and space, hear it talk to me in sounds.
The first one was followed by the letters that yearned to live through
different dimensions. From dissolution of the existing form to a new
shape, from the letter – into a line of text, from 2d paper to its
materialization in a physical 3d earthenware body; from there – back to
calligraphy embodied in a silk print and from there to dissolution and
shape abstraction, a construct of sorts.
The work includes hand-made ceramic letters, screen made of oak and hand
silk-print and compilation of sound compositions.
