    The process/tests/development/sketchbook:

  • 'HOW MUCH DOES YOUR BUILDING WEIGH, MR. FOSTER?'

    Outline

For one of my previous projects I designed a piece for exhibition celebrating the life of a British architect, Norman Foster. He created, and still does, worlds landmark office buildings. Recent release of a film about Foster has been an inspiration for me to create another piece of graphic work based on architecture and geometry. I decided to focus on the shapes often seen in Fosters designs - triangles and squares. Continuing my research about the relationship between typography and architecture, I set a task to create an architectural signature installation promoting the film about Foster.

    Brief

The brief is to design a typographic installation and a new poster advertising the film about Norman Foster titled How much does your building weigh, Mr. Foster?. The existing poster shows just a portrait of that architect. My idea is to express the aspects of Fosters amazing architecture through the 3D/architectural typography installation accompanied by a poster. The focus is on a 3D typography inspired by Fosters architecture, the poster will be designed around that. The aim is to get people engaged with the subject of Fosters architecture by creating large geometric letters F, O, S, T, E and R. Apart from advertising the film, the installation aspires to celebrate the life of Foster by becoming his architectural signature. This could be displayed in all the cities which have buildings designed by this architect.

    Audience

People interested in architecture and design/everyone.

    Tone of voice

Inspirational, encouraging to explore the relationship between architecture and typography.

    Outcome

Paper model of a typographic installation and A1 poster
